We were different. It doesn't mean we were better — sometimes our ratings proved that — and it doesn't mean we were always right (perhaps I didn't need to be live wearing a Speedo that time), but we were different.
Doug "VB" Goudie
And as I watched Maria Stephanos' farewell last night on Fox 25, I couldn't help but feel that as she was leaving that building, "different" was leaving the Boston TV news market, at least for now.
Former FOX 25 Morning News commentator Doug "VB" Goudie had an interesting take on Maria Stephanos' departure from WFXT-TV last night.

We told you it was coming in June, and today Boston's WHDH 7 News debuted its brand new anchor desk at Noon.
The old clear blue tint is out in favor of a cleaner silver clear desk top.
Take a look at the two photos below, and click continue reading for a reminder of what the old desk looked like.

A big congratulations to WHDH-TV 7 News Today in New England anchor Sarah French, and her husband Chris Carpenter, who are now the proud parents to a baby girl.
Blair Addison Carpenter was born very early yesterday morning at Mass General, and weighed in at 7lbs. 1oz, and was 21" long.
Mom and baby are doing well, and Sarah told 7 News that she was up and watching this morning.
A big congratulations to ABC News correspondent Gio Benitez and his partner Tommy DiDario on their engagement today in the "City of Love" Paris.
This will certainly be a vacation to remember!

It can be difficult to anchor in a new town. One of the biggest things to learn is how to pronounce all of the local towns correctly, and that takes time!
WHDH 7 News anchor Jadiann Thompson got tripped up on the town of Leominster. Being that she is normally an evening anchor and reporter, I think she gets a pass for it being 5:30am.
Note to WHDH, this might be a good idea.

When an evening anchor anchors in the morning, they are bound to forget their name. A 2am wake-up is tough! :-)
7 News anchor Jadiann Thompson introduces herself as Christa Delcamp... her co-anchor. Christa & meteorologist Jeremy Reiner have fun with it, by calling each other the wrong names. Sorry, Jadiann... you were correct... this is now on YouTube. :-)
This past Monday, WCVB-TV was honored with a National Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast in the Television (Large Market) category. The gala took place at Gotham Hall in New York City.

WBZ-TV Boston meteorologist Danielle Niles was rudely interrupted by a fly during her weather tease on Tuesday morning.
Do you remember this?
Well, it's back!
Welcome to the Internet. Where all things old are new again... and everything sticks around forever!
Someone (one never knows who - it's the Internet, after all) made a meme of Barry's coffee cup incident, which entertainment (and marijuana) legends Cheech and Chong shared on their Facebook page yesterday. So far, it's received 172,243 likes and been shared over 68,000 times.
Sorry, Barry... but at least you know we know the whole story! You can read our original story here.

Reporter Louisa Moller was welcomed to WBZ-TV with a story about a Witch and a Warlock, and then welcomed to the team by David Wade and Lisa Hughes.

With appearances from WBZ, WHDH and WJAR
If you've read anything online about the changes over at WFXT-TV FOX 25 in Boston over the past week, you wouldn't be surprised that their new logo was being talked about in Chicago.
In my personal experience, I don't remember a change being this talked about or viewed negatively. Granted, the Internet and social media has grown a lot over the years, and the "voice of the people" is now more easily heard.
Chicago anchor Larry Potash of the WGN Morning News brought up the new logo at FOX 25 in his "Larry's World" segment on October 29.
Larry had a message for the management at FOX 25, and television news management in general. "Management thinks that this is what's going to bring the eyeballs in" he said "After they got rid of the anchor that everyone liked." Maria Stephanos even had fans in Chicago, it seems.
"Again, management... it's about faces... remember that" he continued.
You can watch the full clip below. You can also read our story about the changes to FOX 25 here, and watch the new logo/graphics montage we put together here.
What do you think? Is Larry right?
